Tour 3: July 14 - July 27 Småland - Öland
|
Proposed Itinerary:
Driving south of Stockholm along the Baltic coast,
we will travel small roads, take little ferries across
inlets, and see country off the beaten path.
Eventually we will arrive on the island of Öland, a
unique place indeed.
We will stay on a dairy farm, and have excursions
to see the geological wonders of the island.
Hundreds of windmills are to be seen, and we may
be lucky enough to get a closeup of one at work
grinding grain. We will also visit musicians, and
share a little music. Kalmar will also be on the
agenda, with one of the most impressive castles to
be seen anywhere.
Leaving Öland, we will stay in a cottage in central
Småland, with excursions to see some of the
natural and cultural sights of the province.
Europe's oldest and most massive oak tree is in the
vicinity of the last water-powered paper mill in
Sweden. This area is world-famous for its fine
crystal - we will visit some of the glassworks to see
it made.
The second weekend of the tour will be at the
Korrö international music festival. Workshops and
concerts galore, mostly with Swedish musicians, but
also with folkmusicians from many other countries.
Our last days of the trip will be spent in the
neighborhood of Stockholm, with a sendoff by local
musicians for us
