Tour 4:
July 28 - August 10
Western Sweden -
Stockholm
Proposed Itinerary:
Going west from Stockholm, we will
spend a few days in Värmland,
meeting with musicians and viewing
the historical and natural wonders of
the region.   We will have a chance to
wander in the natural preserve
Sveafallen, once a waterfall big
enough to dwarf Niagra, but dry now
for millenia.
We will continue to the archipelago of
the West Coast, in the province of
Bohuslän.    There we will participate
in a fiddle festival in the island town
of Lysekil.
Returning to Stockholm, we will
explore some of the most interesting
sights:  the Wasa, the mightiest ship
of the 17th century, that sank on its
maiden voyage in Stockholm harbor,
only to be raised in the 20th century,
and fully restored to its original glory.
The Nordic Museum, with exhibits
concerning Swedish culture from
ancient times to the present.   The
Old Town, with tiny streets, beautiful
churches, and the Royal Palace.
The outdoor museum called Skansen
will host the greatest gathering of folk
musicians in Sweden's history while
we are there.   The Zorn medal's
centennial will be celebrated with
concerts to which every winner of the
medal has been invited to participate.
All over Stockholm there will be
venues to hear great musicians, but
especially at Skansen.
